Lovely spot. Great for the family. Plenty of places for the kids to explore, plenty of places to fish or swim along the river. Great atmosphere.

Fantastic large flat camping area suitable for families and vans. Very busy over peak season. Would recommend tent campers to keep exploring along the river; there’s plenty of great spots away from the crowds to pitch your tent.

Great camping spot right on the river but can get extremely busy in peak periods. Heaps of 4WD tracks near by to explore the high country and its huts. There are also drop toilets here.

I have never owned a 4x4, I love the Howqua River, my first visit was 1972. And then still go back. I prefer during the week and not school holidays. Such a beautiful part of our country. I steer clear from the high country in bushfire season because when fires occur on the Howqua you have very little chance to exit the area. A week or two after the school holidays is usually good apart and rubbish here and there. People like me generally take home a bag or three. Too many people don’t respect our beautiful country and it’s getting worse. by Martin T.
