Newnes campground

33 Ratings

No vehicle access! It's a long, roughly 10km walk to reach Newnes campground. The campground is walk-in only because Wolgan Road has collapsed and there's a landslip risk at Wolgan Gap. Wolgan Road was the only vehicle access into the valley and is managed by Lithgow Council.

One of the best free camps in the mountains! Good well maintained long drops. Beautiful camping amongst the escarpment. Industrial ruins walk to be had, for a longer walk you can head to the glow worm tunnels. Around 4-5hrs. Gets extremely busy on holidays!!! The hotel has a paid field you can book and also cabins to book too. Accessible for 2 and 4wds

You can usually but there might be a fire ban when you go. Make sure to check before you plan your trip. I’d also bring my own firewood as the shop doesn’t always stock it. by Casey F.

They say life is better around the campfire. And we could not agree more.  Over the years due to increase fire risk it's become a challenge to find great campsites that allow you to have a fire by your tent.  Please be a responsible Aircamper and brush up on your fire safety knowledge.
