Absolutely beautiful spot. I came here camping as a kid in the 80’s. I’m here tonight because my regular place near Tumut is closed. I wont stay beyond tonight... there are some inbred rednecks 4wd’ing in the dark. Paradise spoiled.

My previous review for the Shanty reserve was for a different campsite. Shanty reserve is closed and not accessible.

One of the best places iv’e camped has been along the Murrumbidgee river. Theres a spot for you to swim, take boats, kayaks etc out in the water. Camping spots along the river with a stunning view of the water. There were toilets in some locations but not where we stayed. Little trails to get down to the river bank from your camp. LOTS of cockatoos in the afternoon, no firepits.

The reserve is located on a pretty section of the Murrumbidgee River. We found a very scenic spot to park our small semi-offroad van. However the amount of garbage strewn around campfires and in gullies was absolutely disgusting and a real turn-off! People should be aware of the super privilege it is to have such free camps available and treat these places with respect. Would rate higher except for garbage.
