a few scattered campsites along winch road, a drop toilet in the main one but honestly not super well maintained and kinda gross. the actual area is really beautiful and cool, it’s a historic area so there’s lots of cool info to look at and explore. a bit deep in the mountains so it gets cold af, and it’s muddy af when it’s raining but still nice. the dirt is rocky, so it can be hard to put pegs in the ground but it’s really pretty the main area is big enough for a group, and the scattered sites are also big but there’s one that’s smaller. accessible by 2WD but be careful in the mud/wet went in the middle of the september holidays, and it was dead quiet, we were the only ones at any of the sites

Good road access to most sites. Toilet was easily accessible and in reasonable condition. Roads surrounding the area did not require 4WD. 30 minute drive into Healesville. No phone reception. Not a lo... Read more

Very lovely spot deep in the park, good access without a 4WD and the road is quiet enough to walk down and see hardly anyone the entire time. Beautiful surrounds, lots of little birds. Close enough to Healesville to have lots of options on super cold wet days, and not far from the Kalatha Giant or Wirrawilla Rainforest walks which are definitely kid-friendly.

Question:

Do you need a 4wD drive car to get there ?

Answer:

no, we got there in 2wd. but it can get gnarly in the wet months, so be careful with 2WD, bring maxtrax in case, and sus the weather before you go. the road can also get water potholes and fallen trees so be wary of that too by karina p.

Question:

Do we need to book?

Answer:

I don’t think you can book, but it’s unlikely to be full. I visited immediately after Easter and there was no one else there the first night. There are a couple of campsites on winch road but this one has the drop toilet. by Miss Tortie Markham
