The river was mostly dried up and only left a creek in the main area. The creek was still quite deep though and there is a rope there for people to climb the rocks and jump off. It was a nice swim spot and locals would come each day to swim. One of the locals said this is the driest they have seen the “river” in years! Besides the day trippers the campsite was so quiet. The most campers there were 3 including us over the early January period and we all had atleast 30m in between each other. If you keep driving down there was another little creek and lots of places to camp along the way. Phone service wasn’t great, we all had 1 bar and could receive notifications and phone calls but couldn’t send anything or take calls. We took a walk into the town of Sofala and it was about 40mins each way but the pub is a must see, we had a great time there. Saw lots of animals too, echinda, deer, goats, lizards, kangaroos, foxes, cows and lots of wombat holes. Definitely a lovely campsite with a great swimming spot and beautiful surrounding towns.
