It’s great to have a free campsite within a reasonable distance of Cradle Mountain (about 30 mins to the Visitor Centre). There were maybe half a dozen other campers there in late January, but there’s a ton of space so it wasn’t at all crowded. There are no facilities at the site, so that means no power and no toilets, but that works out fine when you’re not too far away from Cradle. My reception with Telstra was borderline unusable, so keep that in mind. It would probably be enough to send a text or make a short call if really necessary, but trying to use mobile data was painful, and I wouldn’t rely on it. The dirt road in is actually fairly long, but if you drive at a sensible speed a small 2WD should have no issues. Otherwise, it was a nice space, with a great little view out over the lake!
