Arrived at half 5 after visiting cape. Didn’t have cash on me, caretaker didn’t want to take us as she’s having her dinner and it’ll take too long for us to go to a cash point… Nice person…! Nah don’t bother with this place.

Great little campsite that backs onto a wonderful beach, as well as being 10 mins walk from a cove with some very impressive whale bones. All sites are unpowered, and cost $15/night as of June 2022, with a first-come-first-served policy. The Mackay council website has a page that always shows zero availability, so ignore this; the only way is to turn up and hope for the best. Shauna, the new caretaker keeps the place immaculate. There’s a mix of shaded and open sites, though be mindful of falling coconuts. There is a toilet block with soap & cold water, plus a cold water outdoor shower. A seemingly recent addition is a camp kitchen featuring a single gas hotplate, a sink that delivers piping hot water, and a single 240V AC outlet for charging your devices, etc. They also have a couple of picnic tables. I saw mosquitoes on the bathroom walls, but we weren’t bothered by any bitey insects, even when we had our van door open for several minutes.

We did a drive by yesterday to see if our big rig could get in. Yes. Currently there’s no council Caretaker so looks like a free camp Atm. Right on the beach. Small Campsite and quiet area.
